More than a few people would go to great lengths to get their hands on one of these cars. Today it belongs to the Volkswagen Group, which also owns Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen itself.  So how did the story of the majestic Audi begin? Let’s find out.

Audi’ History

August Horch (1868-1951) founded the company A. Horch & Cie. in the Ehrenfeld district of Cologne. There he developed his first car, which was completed in 1901. It went into service in 1901. It had a horizontal engine of about 4-5 hp. It had an alloy body, a novelty in the industry at that time. Three years later it was necessary to expand the factory and the company was listed on the stock exchange.

It could be said that the seed of Audi dates back to 1909. That same year by August Horch after a series of problems with the board of his company, called A. Horch & Cie. Motorwagen-Werke AG, he started another one on 16 July 1909, which he called Horch Automobil-Werke GmbH. This was not the end of his problems, as his former company started a dispute over the name used for his newly created company. The solution was to use the Latin translation of his first name, and so the name was changed to Audiwerke GmbH, which legally took effect on 25 April 1910.

History of Audi

Mercedes-Benz traces its origins to Karl Benz’s creation of the first internal combustion engine in a car, seen in the Benz Patent Motorwagen – financed by Bertha Benz’s dowry and patented in January 1886 and Gottlieb Daimler and their engineer Wilhelm Maybach’s conversion of a stagecoach, with the addition of a petrol engine, introduced later that year. The Mercedes automobile was first marketed in 1901 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG).

Though out some of their newer models, Mercedes-Benz has introduced many electronic and mechanical general innovations and safety features that later became common in other vehicles within Mercedes-Benz and in other manufacturers models. Currently, Mercedes-Benz is one of the best-known and long-standing automotive brands in the world.Mercedes-Benz traces its origins to Karl Benz’s creation of the first internal combustion engine in a car, seen in the Benz Patent Motorwagen – financed by Bertha Benz’s dowry and patented in January 1886 and Gottlieb Daimler and their engineer Wilhelm Maybach’s conversion of a stagecoach, with the addition of a petrol engine, introduced later that year.
