2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GTC Roadster

Amazing Cars and Drives Car Buyer Guide: Mercedes-Benz AMG GTC Roadster Review

The latest in our car reviews is the fabulous Mercedes-Benz AMG GTC Roadster. Mercedes-Benz have released their latest open-top roadster, and we’ve been excited about this for some time. This car sounds just as good as it looks; however, be warned: this car is certainly less practical than other roadsters out there (think of the Porsche Cabriolet or the Audi R8).

Despite boasting an exterior that appears to be built for speed and performance, this is a vehicle that is extremely comfortable. A spacious two-seat interior contains ample head and foot space for adult passengers, whilst the seats themselves are plush, accommodating and most importantly, space sufficient. This is a real bonus compared to traditional roadsters, which often sacrifice interior space for performance mechanics.

The GTC Roadster comes equipped with a 165-litre capacity boot. This is reasonable for many vehicles, despite offering exactly half of the story space we have seen in the previous GT coupe models. However, the new model’s electronic roof is extremely convenient, with a raising and lowering speed of only eleven seconds (again, far faster than what we have seen in previous models).

What is so impressive about this car, however, is the integration of the Mercedes MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, which is visually appealing, easy-to-navigate and packed with interesting features. Navigation is displayed via 3D rendering, and the Mercedes voice recognition software is strong, and certainly a competitor with industry leaders such as Google and Amazon. For longer journeys, the car even boasts its own integrated Wi-Fi hotspot.

The GTC takes to the road with a four-litre, twin-turbocharged, petrol V8, with an impressive spec of 557 horsepower. This car truly combines speed and performance with a wider, broader and more aerodynamic body. When pushed hard, the car sound excellent without sacrificing smoothness on the roads. A satisfying and fun drive, the GTC Roadster in many ways makes up for its high price tag.
